Veterinarians
Dr. Mina Youssef
Owner/Veterinarian
For as long as he can remember, becoming a veterinarian has been Dr. Mina Youssef’s dream. He was raised around all kinds of pets and farm animals and never took for granted the happiness they brought him. Now, Dr. Youssef has achieved his goal and is the owner of his own practice, North Star Animal Hospital!
Dr. Youssef was born and raised in Egypt and attended veterinary medical school in Cairo. After graduation, he moved to the United States and attended the University of Missouri until 2007, when he began working in general practice. Three years later, he transitioned into emergency medicine before opening North Star Animal Hospital on Valentine’s Day, 2014. Internal medicine cases are some of Dr. Youssef’s favorites—they can be quite challenging and truly test his skills! He’s also fond of dental work and seeing a pet’s overall health improve after an oral cleaning.
When he isn’t caring for pets at the clinic or spending time with his family and Ottah, his playful Siamese cat, Dr. Youssef enjoys playing tennis, swimming, and traveling.
Dr. Thomas Ramsey
Medical Director/Veterinarian
Dr. Thomas Ramsey has been a staple in the San Antonio veterinary community for over 30 years. He has been named “best veterinarian” by several local publications throughout the years. A graduate of Texas A&M University and Veterinary School in 1982 and 1984, respectively, he met his wife of 40 years while on an externship in New Mexico, where they still keep a residence today. Dr. Ramsey is a renowned surgeon specializing in orthopedics and is board-certified in acupuncture.
In his spare time, he enjoys competitive cycling, skiing, and fly fishing. He and his wife, Sally, have a 4-year-old mixed-breed dog named Taz that keeps them on their toes! Dr. Ramsey is the light that keeps our hospital shining, and he loves to help welcome you and your furry friends to our veterinary home!
Dr. Jay Meyer
Dr. Meyer grew up in Arizona, where he developed a deep connection to animals early on. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army, serving for three years before transitioning to civilian life. His military service instilled in him a strong sense of discipline and duty, values that would later influence his career in veterinary medicine.
After his time in the Army, Dr. Meyer pursued a career in healthcare and attended the University of Arizona, where he earned his degree in pharmacy. However, his passion for animals was unwavering, prompting him to change course and attend Colorado State University for veterinary school, where he received his veterinary degree.
With 28 years of experience in all aspects of veterinary medicine, Dr. Meyer has worked in a wide range of fields, including general practice, surgery, and emergency care. He is also certified in human hypnosis, which he uses to assist human patients in managing pain and stress.
Outside of his professional life, Dr. Meyer is passionate about mixed martial arts, staying active and sharp through his training. He is an avid reader, enjoying everything from scientific literature to fiction. Gardening also brings him peace, allowing him to unwind and enjoy nature’s beauty.
Dr. Meyer has one grandchild, with whom he enjoys spending time. He continues to serve his community with the same dedication, compassion, and expertise that have defined his 28-year career in veterinary medicine.

Peree
Peree is a Licensed Veterinary Technician who thrives in the chaos of veterinary medicine. Known for her calm under pressure and ability to juggle patient care, client questions, and the occasional flying cat, she brings both skill and humor to every workday.
Off the clock, Peree lives in a loving zoo she calls home, complete with six dogs, two pink belly side-neck turtles, an axolotl, and a piebald ball python (don’t worry—they all get along… mostly). She’s also a proud wife and mom to a sweet baby girl, who’s already learning that fur, scales, and slobber are just part of the family experience.
When she’s not wrangling pets or people, Peree enjoys long walks, getting lost in a good book, and continuing to grow her knowledge in the ever-evolving world of veterinary medicine. Whether it’s through reading, hands-on experience, or learning from those around her, she strives to stay sharp and always ready for whatever the next patient brings.
Monica
Monica has been in the veterinary field for over five years, with experience in both general practice and urgent care. She’s passionate about helping pet owners feel confident and informed, especially when it comes to preventive care and making sure every visit covers what their pet needs. Always eager to learn, Monica values staying sharp so she can better support both clients and the team.
She shares her home with two cats, Salem and Primso, and outside of work she’s always chasing her next hobby. Whether it’s fly fishing, diving, camping, or planning her next trip. Monica is always up to something new!
Customer Service Representatives
Mayra
CSR
With over 15 years of experience in customer service and a lifelong love for animals, Mayra brings both warmth and efficiency to the front desk. She joined the team in 2024 and quickly became a grounding presence for clients and coworkers alike. As the proud pet parent of two dogs and four cats, she understands just how much our furry companions mean to us—and it shows in the care she brings to every interaction.
Whether she’s greeting you with a smile, helping schedule appointments, or offering a calm voice on a stressful day, Mayra holds space with genuine compassion. Her favorite part of the job? Getting to see all the fur babies who walk (or are carried!) through the door—each one a reminder of why she loves what she does.
Outside of the clinic, Mayra is passionate about metaphysical healing and soulful living, often exploring the connection between animals, energy, and the unseen threads that bond us all. She’s also powered by starlight… and coffee. Lots and lots of coffee.
